Calvary Kids Activity November 8

CalvaryKids, of all ages – SHOW US YOUR MUSTACHE!

This week, we are learning more about the ‘N’ in the T.H.I.N.K. acronym.

T – Is it True?
H – Is it Helpful?
I – Is it Inspiring?
N – Is it Necessary?
K – Is it Kind?

Proverbs 17:28 says:

Even a fool who keeps silent, is considered wise;
When he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent.

Do you know someone who likes to talk? Like a lot? (Maybe it’s you.) These are the type of people who can talk about 3 different subjects in one sentence. Their mouths are moving too fast for the their brains to catch up!

And while there is something to be said for thinking on your feet, this type of speech can often get a person in trouble. With that many words haphazardly flying out of your mouth, you’re bound to say something that will hurt someone. And you can’t take it back, once it’s out there.

Trying to take back your words is like squeezing out all of the toothpaste from the tube and then trying to put it all back in. It’s impossible! There will always be remnants, a reminder of what was said (or squeezed!). And while people can forgive, it’s even more difficult to forget.

As we’ve been learning, it’s so important to think before we speak. This week, our thoughts are focus on the necessity of what we want to say? Is there a need? Does it have to be said? Does it have purpose? Will it change the outcome?

How many times have you blurted out something, simply because the thought was bouncing around in your mind and you felt like it needed to come out?! Before it does, try to think about those around you and determine if it’s necessary.

If only there was a way we could remember to be slow in our speech…

Have you ever seen a man with a really big mustache? The kind with handlebars that curl on the ends? Did you know that the mustache doesn’t automatically do that? It actually takes a special kind of wax and lots of taming and training for the whiskers to perfectly curl like that!

Sometimes you’ll see men playing with their mustaches, twisting the whiskers to make sure each hair is in place. They appear deep in thought. Maybe if we each had a handlebar mustache, we would be slow to speak!

Let’s try it! Make your own mustache and then say to yourself, ‘I mustache you a question… is it necessary?’

PLEASE don’t forget to post a picture on social media and include #calvaryphxwatchparty. Because everyone looks awesome with whiskers, don’t forget to SHOW US YOUR MUSTACHE!
