In James 4:11-12, it says this:
Don’t speak evil against each other, dear brothers and sisters… God is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to judge your neighbor?
Do you know what a judge is? The person typically wearing a black robe and holding a gavel in a courtroom. They hear both sides and then decide who is right and who is wrong. What would happen if everyone in the courtroom could make this determination? It would be chaos!
Think about it. What would happen if some of the people said one thing and the other people said another? How would you decide who is right and who is wrong?
In the courtroom of our world, God is the judge. The one and only. Because he made the rules, he wrote the Bible, and he created the world, he is the one who decides what is right and what is wrong.
As children of God, we submit to His word and act accordingly. We know we need to be reading our Bibles and praying regularly, so that we can be more like Christ. In doing so, we can help guide others in a loving and kind way.
One of the ways in which Pastor Mark teaches this passage is with the acronym T.H.I.N.K. An acronym is when you use letters of a word to help you remember the lesson. In this lesson, we will try to remember to THINK before we speak.
For the next several weeks, we are going to learn more about each letter and what it means, but for now we will make a poster to follow along. Use the following acronym:
T – Is it True?
H – Is it Helpful?
I – Is it Inspiring?
N – Is it Necessary?
K – Is it Kind?
