Jesus’ love is so big and so great that we are unable to ever fully understand it. Our human brains were not built to ever fully grasp it. So, when we say He loves you more than you can even imagine, we’re being 100% honest!
Because Jesus loves you, he died for you. He freed you from your sins before you even created them, before you were even born. He took the punishment for anything bad you have done or will do.
When Jesus looks upon us, he sees us as pure perfection, free from any sin.
It’s kind of like walking in the rain. The rain drops fall down upon you and if you don’t have an umbrella, you get wet. Your clothes. Your hair. Your skin. All wet.
Well, Jesus’ love is like our umbrella. It covers us from every rain drop. With it, we can stand in the rain and remain completely dry. Have you ever done that? Stood there completely dry and watched the rain come off of the umbrella? (If not, it might be time to experiment with the hose and an umbrella!)
It’s unreal how something that appears to be so small and powerless can offer so much protection!
But Jesus doesn’t stop there. He asks us to love like Him.
Now, because we’re on this side of heaven, we are unable to perfect this and be like Jesus, but we can try. And that is what He’s calling us to do. We are to love others just as Jesus has loved us.
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8
When we love like Jesus, we can protect others from sinning and in turn, show people Jesus.
Have you ever had a friend who was gossiping? Gossiping is when you talk about someone else’s private life when they’re not around, and it’s considered a sin. As their friend, you have two options: (1) you can listen and allow them to continue gossiping, or (2) you can lovingly stop them and protect them from sinning further.
Jesus wants you to love like him, and go with option #2. He wants you to be an umbrella for those around you and protect them from the raindrops of sin.
To remind yourself of the power of loving like Jesus, create your own UMBRELLA! You can draw it, cut it out of paper or use something like a paper plate. Whatever you choose, don’t forget the rain drops, and remember to SHOW US YOUR UMBRELLA!
