Calvary Kids Activity

CalvaryKids (of all ages), show us your TURTLE!

We all know words and actions can hurt people. How often have you responded to someone in anger, and later wished you hadn’t said anything at all? Once our words or actions are out there, we can’t take them back. We can apologize and ask for forgiveness, but we can’t make them un-done or un-heard.

Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.
James 1:19

If you’ve ever played Simon Says, you know how important listening is to the game. If you react quickly to what is being said, you may be ‘out’ because you weren’t listening to see if the person said ‘Simon Says’.

It’s the same in our interaction with others and when we’re reading the Bible. If we’re too quick, we may respond differently than we would if we had thought about it some more.

Have you ever seen a TURTLE? They move slowly, eat slowly, and even process their food slowly inside their bodies. In the Animal Kingdom, this should make them easy to catch and be eaten. Yet, some turtles live for hundreds of years! Why do you think that is?

That’s right, they have a hard, heavy shell to protect them. Think of God’s Word as our own hard, heavy shell. His promises and truths protect us from the attacks of our enemy. If we are slow and think before we act, we can use God’s Word to help us make better decisions.

To remind yourself to be slow to react, create your own TURTLE. You can draw it, cut it out of paper or use something like a paper plate or egg carton to make a model. Whatever you choose, remember to SHOW US YOUR TURTLE!
